Interests & Career Goals

My long-term goal is to work as a psychiatrist across the lifespan, with a balance between early intervention that may alter the course of a life and later-life support where helping patients understand the past can guide them through the present. Within CAP, I'm interested in pediatric catatonia, NMDA encephalitis, consult-liaison psychiatry, and work with neurodevelopmentally different patients. I would also like to continue to work with the severely mentally ill adult population through street psychiatry, an assertive community treatment model, or something similar.

Favorite Pastimes

I love to travel and experience other cultures, 18 countries and counting! My favorite pastime at home is writing, and one of my goals is to become a published author. I'm also an avid tennis player and played in multiple USTA leagues during residency. Skiing is also a favorite, but Florida isn’t exactly the place for that, so maybe I'll get back to it now that I'm closer to mountains. I'm also heavily involved in AACAP, as an appointed committee member to the medical student and resident committee and the psychotherapy committee.

Strengths of the Program

What drew me to Duke initially is the strong experience in consult-liaison psychiatry within the children's hospital, as well as rotating at the state hospital for exposure to a more severely ill population of children. I was also impressed by all of my interactions with faculty, and when I met Dr. Chandrasekhar at AACAP, she was just as genuine and welcoming as she comes across in the interview. I look forward to the supportive environment at an institution filled with learning opportunities.
