Interests & Career Goals

My long-term goal is to work as a psychiatrist across the lifespan, with a balance between early intervention that may alter the course of a life and later-life support where helping patients understand the past can guide them through the present. Within CAP, I'm interested in pediatric catatonia, NMDA encephalitis, consult-liaison psychiatry, and work with neurodevelopmentally different patients. I would also like to continue to work with the severely mentally ill adult population through street psychiatry, an assertive community treatment model, or something similar. I will be pursuing forensic psychiatry fellowship next, and look forward to the way in which I will incorporate all of this training into a future career serving severely mentally ill children and adults.

Favorite Pastimes

I love to travel and experience other cultures, 20 countries and counting! My favorite pastime at home is writing, and one of my goals is to become a published author. I'm also an avid tennis player and played in multiple USTA leagues during residency and now during fellowship (the Triangle has a robust tennis community!). Skiing is also a favorite, but Florida isn’t exactly the place for that, so maybe I'll get back to it now that I'm closer to mountains. I'm also heavily involved in AACAP, as an appointed committee member to the medical student and resident committee, the psychotherapy committee, and the training and education committee. I also have the great privilege of serving as the AACAP Jerry M. Wiener Resident Member of Council this year, representing trainees at large and working with the AACAP Executive Council to promote trainee initiatives.

Strengths of the Program

What drew me to Duke initially is the strong experience in consult-liaison psychiatry within the children's hospital, as well as rotating at the state hospital for exposure to a more severely ill population of children. I was also impressed by all of my interactions with faculty, and when I met Dr. Chandrasekhar at AACAP, she was just as genuine and welcoming as she comes across in the interview. I have been incredibly grateful this year for that supportive environment at an institution filled with learning opportunities. One of my favorite parts of training at Duke is all of the opportunities that exist for higher learning outside of the fellowship itself. From the Duke Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health to the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, and History of Medicine, the possibilities to learn have been endless.

Research Interests

I will be completing the Trent Center Fellowship in Clinical Ethics from July 2024 to June 2025, working on a research project that bridges my interests in psychiatry, child development, forensics, and ethics. Over the course of my career, I am also interested in joining the force of further research into catatonia spectrum disorders within the pediatric autism population.
