Duke Psychiatry Trainees Receive Numerous Awards & Honors

Congratulations to our trainees on the following external awards and honors they earned during the 2021-2022 academic year:

  • PGY4 psychiatry resident Adam Fijtman, MD, PhD, was selected for the NIMH Clinical Fellowship. Designed to attract and train physician-scientists for successful research careers in the clinical neurosciences, the clinical fellowship program offers post-residency training opportunities for psychiatrists and physicians in related fields.
     
  • PGY4 psychiatry resident Syeda Razia (Ray) Haider, MD, was selected as the Senior Deputy Editor for the American Journal of Psychiatry Residents’ Journal.
     
  • PGY3 William Myerson, MD, PhD, was awarded an Honorable Mention for the 2022 NIMH Outstanding Resident Award Program.
     
  • PGY3 psychiatry resident Jonathan Nahmias, MD, was selected as resident member of the ACGME’s Psychiatry Review Committee (a two-year term). Dr. Nahmias is the sole resident member on the committee, selected from nominations from programs across the U.S.
     
  • PGY4 med-psych resident Gregg Robbins-Welty, MD, MS, on being accepted into the 2022 American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Honors Scholars Program. The program aims to encourage trainees to pursue specialized training in geriatric psychiatry to meet the mental health needs of the expanding population of older Americans.
     
  • Gregg Robbins-Welty, MD, MS (PGY4) Andrew Tuck, MD (PGY4) and Rick Wolthusen, MD, MPP (PGY3) were awarded American Psychiatric Association and American Psychiatric Association Foundation fellowships.
     
  • Recent med-psych resident graduate Colin Smith, MD, was the 2021 recipient of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry’s Martin Fenton Award, established to honor Dr. Martin Fenton, an internist and psychiatrist who was an outstanding clinician, providing integrated medical and psychiatric care for his patients, as well as an educator and a leader with a vision for excellence at the interface.
     
  • Recent med-psych resident graduate Colin Smith, MD, was selected as one of twelve 2022 Laughlin Fellows of The American College of Psychiatrists. Laughlin Fellows are chosen from an elite pool of applicants deemed likely to make a significant contribution to the field of psychiatry.
     
  • PGY3 psychiatry resident Rick Wolthusen, MD, MPP, received the 2022 Society of Biological Psychiatry Humanitarian Award for his collaborative work with teams in Ghana and Kenya on various health activities.
