Congratulations to our faculty members who were appointed to new leadership roles at the departmental, institutional, statewide, national, and international levels this past year! Read on to learn more about them and their new roles.

Melanie Bonner

Melanie Bonner, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was named assistant dean of student services for the School of Medicine.

Karen Carmody

Karen Carmody, PhD, associate professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences and associate professor of the practice of psychology and neuroscience, was named deputy director of the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress.

Nathan Copeland

J. Nathan Copeland, MD, MPH, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was elected president of the North Carolina Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Jane Gagliardi

Jane Gagliardi, MD, MHS, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and professor of medicine, was named associate dean for learning environment and well-being for the School of Medicine.

Nicole Helmke

Nicole Helmke, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and assistant professor in medicine, was named program director for the medicine-psychiatry residency.

Amanda Kimberg

Amanda Kimberg, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was named associate program director for the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.

David Madden

David Madden, PhD, professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences and professor of psychology and neuroscience, was named editor-in-chief for the journal Neurobiology of Aging.

Joe McClernon

Joseph McClernon, PhD, professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was named associate director of the Duke Clinical & Translational Science Institute.

Rhonda Merwin

Rhonda Merwin, PhD, associate professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was elected president of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science.

Jennifer Naylor

Jennifer Naylor, PhD, associate professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was appointed director of the Mid-Atlantic (VISN 6) Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC).

Julia Woodward

Julia Woodward, PhD, associate professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences and obstetrics and gynecology, was named associate editor at the European journal Human Reproduction.
