Interests & Career Goals: I am hoping to refine my career interests during my time at Duke, but I’m broadly interested in studying and providing evidence-based psychotherapies. Through my research and clinical work, I hope to identify and address barriers to evidence-based treatment, particularly for marginalized populations.
Favorite Pastimes: In my free time, I love to cook, try new foods, read fiction, and watch reality TV (especially The Real Housewives and anything on Food Network).
Why Duke? I chose Duke because of the opportunity to receive excellent training in a variety of CBTs and in particular, full-model DBT. I was drawn to Duke’s dedication to evidence-based practice and the program’s focus on interns’ professional development. I also really loved that growth-mindset is a driving principle of the training program and that the priority is to help interns develop into competent and confident psychologists by the end of the year.
Research Interests: Most of my research until this point has been about emotion regulation. I’m interested in learning more about how emotion regulation strategy selection, adaptiveness, and efficacy vary depending on specific features of the situation or environment (e.g., type of stressor). In particular, I have been studying how contexts with varying degrees of racism-related stress may be related to emotion regulation for Black American adults. In the future, I hope to expand my research to include treatment/intervention studies.
