Interests & Career Goals: I have developed a particular interest in supporting individuals navigating trauma- and stressor-related disorders, as well as sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth and young adults. Looking ahead, I hope to build a career that integrates research, evidence-based clinical practice, and teaching to improve mental health outcomes and promote resilience among marginalized communities.
Favorite Pastimes: Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with people I love, traveling, hiking, attending concerts, playing, coaching, and watching women's soccer, learning guitar, reading a good book, and watching a fun TV show or movie.
Why Duke? I chose Duke because of the rich clinical and research training opportunities that align closely with my professional goals. Equally important, I was drawn to the collaborative, supportive, and values-driven culture, and I was excited to learn alongside such thoughtful and genuine colleagues throughout my internship year.
Research Interests: My research focuses on understanding the etiology and maintenance of problematic substance use in youth and young adulthood, with a specific focus on the sexual and gender minority (SGM) population. Supported by an NIH F31 fellowship, my current work aims to elucidate underlying mechanisms that explain differences in risk among SGM youth by identifying risk and protective factors that shape the relationship between minority stress and substance use across development. Ultimately, I hope this work will inform more effective prevention and intervention efforts that promote resilience and improve mental health outcomes for SGM youth.
