
Windy Batten brings more than 20 years of leadership in research administration to Duke Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. She is recognized for her deep knowledge of federal research policies, data analytics, and operational strategy, with extensive experience guiding faculty and teams through the full research lifecycle. Her expertise spans pre- and post-award management, compliance oversight, staff development, and process optimization.
Windy began her career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before moving into the telecommunications industry, where she developed skills in documentation management, communications, and web development. Since joining the department in 2001, she has held progressively senior roles, earning her Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential in 2010 and building a career distinguished by both operational excellence and strategic vision.
In her current role, Windy partners closely with department leadership, faculty, and administrative teams to strengthen research operations across the department. She leads financial risk management and effort gap review processes, provides data-driven analyses to inform departmental planning, and advises on the impact of evolving federal research policies. She also contributes to Clinical Research Unit (CRU) leadership discussions and manages the visiting scholar program.
