Dr. Schechter is a licensed clinical psychologist at Duke University School of Medicine who specializes in child developmental and behavioral disorders. As the Duke Center for Girls & Women with ADHD’s Co-Director, she leads the Center’s education, outreach, and research initiatives.
As a faculty member in the Duke ADHD Program, Dr. Schechter conducts research, provides clinical services, and supervises trainees. Dr. Schechter’s research focuses on the role of biological and psychosocial risk factors in the development of childhood disorders. Specifically, she is interested in the interplay between maternal health behaviors and psychological functioning during pregnancy and developmental, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes during early childhood. Dr. Schechter is especially interested in identifying factors associated with the development of co-occurring disorders, such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.
Clinically, Dr. Schechter specializes in the empirically supported assessment and treatment of developmental, psychiatric, and behavioral disorders.
Dr. Schechter is an associate member of the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders (APSARD) and is the co-chair of the Women and Girls with ADHD Special Interest Group.
Dr. Schechter completed her master’s and doctorate in clinical psychology at Emory University, her pre-doctoral clinical internship at Duke University Medical Center, and her post-doctoral fellowship at the Duke ADHD Program.
