Dr. Gierisch is a behavioral scientist and health services researcher with expertise in engagement science, qualitative methods, health behavior change, and intervention development. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Department of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. She also holds an appointment as a Core Investigator with the Center of Innovation to Accelerate Discovery and Practice Transformation at the Durham VA Health Care System. 

Throughout her career, Dr. Gierisch has employed participatory methods to develop and test innovative interventions to optimize health and well-being, with a focus on centering the voices of marginalized groups. She has extensive research experience developing health innovations informed by patients’ preferences through qualitative research, evidence synthesis, and engagement of diverse community collaborators to refine research questions, methods, interventions, and dissemination plans. 

Dr. Gierisch completed both her MPH and PhD in health behavior from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in health services research in the Department of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Gierisch has been supported by grants from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the National Institutes of Health. She is excited to bring her expertise in behavioral and engagement sciences, and her lived experience as a parent and a patient, to advance the mission and vision of the Duke Center for Girls & Women with ADHD.
