The Office for Research & Innovation has awarded funding to eight, interdisciplinary projects as part of the inaugural Duke Science and Technology (DST) Launch Seed Grant Program. This year’s winners include faculty from multiple disciplines across campus and the School of Medicine who were selected out of 61 proposal finalists for initiating high-impact projects that could lead to additional external funding.
Duke Psychiatry assistant professor Yun Wang, PhD, was among the awardees. She and her co-PI, Hai “Helen” Li, professor of electrical and computer engineering, aim to develop a user-friendly, cloud-based tool for analyzing MRI scans of developing infant brains. It will be based on artificial intelligence, but users will not be required to have any advanced computational skills to take advantage of the platform, named FINNEAS, the Federated Infant Neuroimaging Analysis Platform. The system will also accommodate patient privacy and differences in data from one scanning center to the next.
