Why You Should Celebrate Work Accomplishments

In this Duke Today article, several of our Duke colleagues share how they celebrate work accomplishments, and McLean Pollock, PhD, shares insights into why it's important to do so. She says that celebrating victories can help counteract people's natural tendency to focus on the negative. 

“I think it’s incredibly important, especially if you’re working in teams over a long period of time,” says Pollock, assistant professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. “I think we tend to focus on the negative, that’s kind of a human trait. So being meaningful and intentional about pausing and recognizing that you’re working together toward long-term goals, and that you’ve hit milestones along the way, that certainly builds up a sense of meaning to the work.”
